It Takes Work

I had a really interesting conversation with my husband the other night. He told me that he had been talking to a friend who knew I had gastric band surgery. The guy said that he wanted to have surgery too because then he could just lose the weight without having to do any work. What Scott told me he said made me really, really proud.

Scott said that he has watched me take this journey and work very hard. He acknowledged that he sees me eating the food I'm supposed to eat, avoiding sliders because they're too easy to eat, going to the doctor for follow up visits, and working out. He has seen me get frustrated, plateau for weeks on end, freak out that I'm not losing weight, and bust my butt to make the scale move. He said that I (usually) avoid ice cream and lobster bisque as much as I love them because they're way too easy to eat, and that if I don't do what I'm supposed to, I don't lose weight. It's NOT easy. It's NOT effortless. It's a tool, and doesn't do the work by itself.

Sadly, my band does not get up and go to the gym by itself. I have to get up and go with it. But I digress.

The guy's response was, "Well f*** it then. I'll just stay fat."

Like I said to Scott, the band wouldn't do that guy any good. He would be the one drinking milkshakes every day, not ever going in for an adjustment, disregarding protein and veggies, and then saying that the band failed.

Scott said some things that really made me feel fantastic. He told me that he had been looking at some old pictures last week and he lives with me every day so he knew I had changed but didn't realize just how drastic it was. He really was amazed at the difference when he looks back like that. He said I'm half the size I was and he's so impressed by how I've changed my life.

I love that man. :-)

How great would it be if your band got up and took you to the gym!?!? It is a tool, an amazing tool.

It's nice sometimes to hear that people in your life notice the commitment you've made and how well you've done. Right on...

Scott is one smart man. I'm so glad that he set that guy straight. This is a lot of work. Hell it's a lot of hard work. You are doing a great job.

I like the change to the blog. Really cute. I see the blog fairy is visiting you.

Awww, that is just so sweet. You have a great husband.

If only our bands forced us to go to the gym! LOL.

What a phenomenal answer for your hubby! I have yet to be banded (hopefully in the next couple of months!) but I know from reading your blog and others, that the band really is a tool, not the entire solution. You're doing so wonderfully, totally inspirational to me :)

Woo! I see the blog fairy has been here. SOO pretty!

As for Scott, what an awesome partner for you. My G is the same way. He is my strongest advocate in my journey and would also be the first one to cheer me on and acknowledge how hard I'm working. Yay you!

What a great husband!
Those are the types of people who shouldn't get the band for sure. I hate that the commen misconception is WLS is easy because you and I both know it isn't!
