Fill #2

I had my second fill today. The doc pulled out the 3 cc's that he gave me last time and it was all still there. He added 2 cc's and I couldn't swallow water - it was pooling in my throat - scary! So he took one cc out and the water went gurgling down. Will this be my sweet spot? Who knows. The last fill kept me going for months.

I knew it was REALLY REALLY time for a fill this weekend when I was able to eat, with no problem, deep dish pizza, an entire Chicago hot dog (including bun) and more. Not all at once, of course.

I was up 2.8 pounds since my last visit. I'm sure that part of that was normal travel bloat, but it was definitely time for a fill.

I'm on clear liquids for the rest of the day, full liquids tomorrow, mushies on Wednesday, and back to normal on Thursday. I am SO HUNGRY right now and not sure how I will make it through the rest of the day on clears. But I will.

I had my 6 month blood work last week and saw the results today - cholesterol is 158, glucose is 77, everything is perfect except for vitamin D which is STILL a little low, so I'm back on the vitamin D prescription. My B12 was also on the low side of normal, so I'm going to start sublingual B12. That's about it!

Yawwwwwwwwn

For anyone thinking about going to the next BOOBS event...do NOT do it. You will be exhausted, hung over, sore, nauseated, up three pounds, and feel like you need a week to recover.

However, you will also be loved, hugged, bought drinks, share amazing food, laugh until your port hurts, learn all kinds of interesting new things about people you thought you knew pretty well (it's amazing what comes out when there is practically an infinite supply of wine), rub lots of port babies, and make some awesome new friends.

Come to think of it, the whole thing was probably worth it. Yeah, I'd say it was worth it. Yep.

Inquiring BOOBS Want to Know

This was on the BOOBS blog today...

Hi all the boobie girls! Someone much more organized than I am thought it would be fun to know more about you, and she enlisted me to think of some crazy questions…so…this is sort of a Gillyified version of Drazil’s BYOC. Knock yourselves out.

1) You’re trapped on a desert island and you can bring only 3 of your favourite foods along. What do you bring?

Can I be trapped on a DESSERT island instead? Heh. I crack myself up. If I could bring anything I want and assuming that heating/refrigeration/chef service is included and calories don't count:

- Thai Panang curry with chicken, broccoli, and steamed rice
- Skyline chili 3-way (chili and LOADS of cheese over spaghetti)
- Blackberry cobbler with vanilla bean ice cream

2) If you could meet any 3 people, living or dead, who would they be and why?

- Jerry Garcia, because I've been a Deadhead for as long as I can remember, and I'd love to sit down and talk to him.
- My father's father, because it makes me sad that I never met one of my grandparents.
- Thomas Jefferson, because I'd love to get his take on what's going on in the world today.

3) What is your stripper name? (take the name of your first pet and the name of the street you grew up on)

Stormy Thirty-third. How boring! Can I use current pet/street instead? If so, then it's Liberty Fashion.

4) How old were you when you lost your virginity? Alternative question if you don’t want to answer this: What is your LEAST favourite part of your bod since losing weight? Your MOST favourite since losing weight?

I was as pure as the driven snow until my wedding night. (Come on, my parents read this!)

My favorite part - cheekbones and collarbones
Least favorite - arms...yuck

5) Do you believe in ghosts or evil spirits? Would you be willing to spend a night alone in a house that is supposedly haunted?

Um. Yeah, sure.

6) What is your natural hair colour? If you dye it something completely different from what your momma gave ya, how come?

Dark blond. I used to highlight it all the time but my hair is REALLY long, so it took forever and was expensive and was drying my hair, so it's au natural now.

7) Boxers or briefs? Alternatively…bikinis or granny panties?

Briefs, and high-cut cotton ones.

8) If you could only watch one movie for the rest of your life, what would it be and why? (Trilogies do not count as one movie, cheaterpantses!)

Shrek! It makes me laugh and cry every time I watch it.

9) What is your guilty pleasure (feel free to go straight to the gutter with this one if the spirit moves you!)

Reality TV. My husband thinks it's ridiculous but he's wrong. :-) I have to think all day long. I like to turn my brain off at the end of a long day. (Speaking of...it's Biggest Loser time!)

10) How many pounds gone forever are you celebrating?? :)

54...and holding.

Nervous About Chicago

  • What if I'm the only one who doesn't really know anyone?
  • What if I show up and no one knows who I am?
  • What if I don't like everyone?
  • What if everyone doesn't like me?
  • What if my dress isn't right?
  • What if my clothes are wrong for the weather?
  • What if I can't keep up?
  • What if I get lost?
  • What if I can't find the hotel?
  • What if I can't sleep?
  • What if I snore and my roommate hates me?
I know that the majority of this is not likely, but my brain is working overtime on this. Am I the only one?

Birthday NSV

Today is my husband Scott's birthday. We went to his favorite steakhouse for dinner. When we got there, the place was jam packed and the only table open was a booth by the bar. I was tempted to wait because the last time we were seated in the bar I was so uncomfortable jammed in the miniature booth. This place was built in the 1940's and the booths are tiny.

Scott said the booth was fine before I could object. We were seated at the same booth as we were a couple of years ago. There were a good 6 inches between me and the table. Yay. :-)

I ordered the smallest thing on the menu (a 6 oz. filet), barely touched my potatoes, nibbled at the salad, didn't have any bread, just had a few bites of a shared piece of chocolate cake, and I STILL left quite full. I love my band!!!

A Good Day

I was the featured blogger on the BOOBS blog today. What a lovely surprise! It totally made my day. Only ten days until Chicago and I am nervous but crazy excited.

A fellow WLS patient from my doctor's office emailed me last night to say that she had a bunch of NICE clothes for me in sizes 14-16, so I'm hoping there's a dress in there for Saturday night's fancy dinner. If not, I'll be going shopping this weekend.

The scale isn't moving. I've been stuck right around 54 pounds down for a couple of weeks. It is annoying, but I know I have a fill scheduled for the day after I get back from my trip so I'm trying to be mellow about the whole thing and just go with maintaining for now. My sister and brother-in-law were in town for a few days and we did a LOT of eating so I am ok with maintaining right now. I made mostly good choices, but I am not denying the existence of pad thai, sushi, sweet potato fries, tostones, jerk meatballs, a (shared) coconut cupcake, guacamole and chips, and the amazing chocolate cake that my mom got for my sister's, dad's, and husband's birthdays - which all fall within a couple of weeks of each other. Come to think of it, that's pretty darn good that I maintained last weekend!

I wore the pink polo shirt today that the lovely Kristin from Catchy Title Here sent me. I got several compliments, including one co-worker who remarked that he liked the preppy look on me and if he wasn't totally in love with his wife that he would be hitting on me. Heh.

Thousand Word Thursday 9/9/10

A decoration in your home that is very meaningful to you - a family heirloom, a gift from your BFF, etc. Show (with a pic) and tell (describe it)...

This is by far my favorite decoration in my home. My sister put it together for me as a gift. It is the photos of my sister (left), mother (center), and me (right) on our wedding days. It is hanging in my living room. I LOVE this and every time I look at it, I smile.

Thousand Word Thursday (a day late)

The lovely Amy from Babbles of a Bandster wrote:

Let's celebrate our own beauty and how wonderful we all look with a photo of your favorite feature.

My hands make pretty things. They also touch my favorite people and animals, cook, type, and play. I find them quite useful. I have nice fingernails too.

Fill 'er Up

Things I ate today:

Bagel Thin with Laughing Cow cheese wedge and 2 slices of Boar's Head chicken.

Fiber One bar.

A piece of Cuban bread, an entire lunch sized portion of chicken breast with grilled onions, 1/2 cup of red beans, about 1/4 cup of rice, and 2 tostones.

Almost a whole jerk chicken wrap consisting of jerk chicken (duh), lettuce, onions, avocado, plantain, and mango, in a whole wheat wrap.

Oh yes, my friends. I need a fill. I am scheduled to have one on September 27, the day after I get back from Chicago.

Good news: I will be able to eat those rare treats like Chicago Deep Dish Pizza and enjoy the hell out of them.

Bad news: I will be able to eat those rare treats like Chicago Deep Dish Pizza and enjoy the hell out of them.

I will need to REALLY watch it for the next few weeks and remember that just because I can doesn't mean I should.

Bad Blogger

I haven't had much to say, and last week was the beginning of the semester so in addition to working full time and trying to spend a few minutes with my husband every day, I am also taking two classes, which hasn't left me with a whole lot of time! Besides, how many times can I repeat:

  • I'm still losing weight slowly (54 pounds down as of this morning).
  • I am still exercising a few days a week (and have finally completed week one of "Couch to 5K")
  • I am still really looking forward to Chicago and can't wait to meet everyone!
  • I still love Tijuana Flats.
  • I am still annoyed by having to deal with food.
  • I am still reading blogs mostly on my phone during my lunch break so I don't comment nearly as much as I would like.
So...what's new? Hmmm...

I have started using the charcoal grill more often and more successfully. We had fresh tuna tonight. It was delicious! This week I have also grilled chicken apple sausages and veggies (onions, yellow squash and zucchini) with fantastic results.

My sister is coming to visit soon. Yay!

My job is...well...my Mom told me that if I don't have anything nice to say that I shouldn't say anything at all. So I will tell you that I have two awesome co-workers that make my day happier and that's all I have to say about that.

Is it the weekend yet?
