I have the most helpfulest (yes, I know that's not a real word but it's the only one that works here) blog friends and I was so encouraged with all of the responses when I asked whether I should walk or "run" the 5K in Chicago. Thank you!
I went to the gym this afternoon and did a 5K on the treadmill, just to get a baseline for where I am now. The answer is...my numbers were pretty pathetic. It took me just under an hour, 58 minutes and 33 seconds to be exact, to do 3.2 miles. I'm not being down on myself about this...I'm sooo glad I got off my "buts" and did it. I burned a whole lot of calories and feel fantastic.
I am so excited to have a concrete goal to strive for, and I can't wait for the BOOBS 5K in September!

That's a great time for starting out...now you know where you stand.
That is a great time. Don't see yourself short!!! It took me a long time to get under an hour. Even after 10 weeks of training that was my goal for completing the 5k. One thing about training on a treadmil. I have heard that you should set the incline at about 1-1.5% if you don't mix trail running into your routine. It is suppose to train your body to some degree for the real world. I find it helps a lot.
Glad you've decided to go for it.
Oh my goodness Steph - even running, I'm only 10-12ish minutes faster! You DID it - and finished.. and you are going to have a blast in Chicago! Great job.
YAY!!! I completed my first 5k last month and it took me 59 minutes!!! You beat my time! Congrats!
It takes me 55 minutes to do 5k so you're doing great. I'm walking in Chicago so we can walk together.
attagirl!
That's fine! Now you know your starting point and just set a goal for the 5k and smash it!!! Everybody starts somewhere!
