Karin's Visit & Tailbone Pain

Spending the evening with Karin was awesome. She was one of the people I feel I strongly bonded with in Chicago last year. When she was going to be in town for one evening, we decided to make a night out of it, have a fancy dinner, and have a slumber party.

Dinner was wonderful - the restaurant focuses on fresh, organic, farm-to-table ingredients...and the best part - they offer 2 sizes of entree - full size or petite. Built in bandster portions! When we ordered, the server thought we weren't ordering enough, but turned out to be plenty. I decided to order two appetizers as my meal - one was a market salad with beets, greens, different lettuces, radishes...it was very fresh and delicious. I also had grilled wild shrimp with goat cheese polenta and local veggies. Delicious.

We did go for dessert. Karin had a gorgeous little key lime tart with pistachio and berries:

I had the mini chocolate cake with bitter chocolate mousse and dark chocolate shell. It was delectable and perfect.

We went for a drive after dinner and then settled back in our hotel room to relax:

The next morning we played around at Marshalls for awhile and tried on silly hats:

Our visit was way too short, but it was just a preview for the excellent time we'll have in Chicago. It was wonderful to see this amazing lady and I miss her already!

In other news, I don't think I mentioned it here, but I've been having a lot of tailbone pain. It hurts so freaking much when I am sitting for a long time (I work sitting in front of a computer all day) or when going from sitting to standing. I didn't think it was related to weight/band at all so I didn't really think to bring it up here, but Karin and I were at dinner last night and she obviously noticed I was hurting. She said she also had tailbone pain after she'd lost a bunch of weight. It went away eventually for her and I hope it will for me too. She thinks it's related to losing ass fat and not having as much cushion. The doc called in some painkillers, but those things make me loopy so I really can't take them during the day. Tylenol doesn't touch it and I'm not allowed to take Advil. Has this happened to anyone else? Anything help?

I have bruised my tailbone some how before too. Totally without knowing it. I feel like it just went away. What about the tylonel liquid gels? Those work better for me.

Your meal looks amazing. Intact the evening looks like so much fun!

i noticed that too. the tailbone thing. def from losing weight. i think man, being boney can be painful. is this what skinny ppl deal with? try doing squats, stepping, etc. anything that works your glutes. so you can build up the padding you lost with some muscle.

yes...but mine only happens when I am on it. Like doing certain ab workouts or yoga moves that have you balancing on your ass...i don't know how it doesnt hurt skinny people. I asked Heather and others...it doesnt hurt. I think that it must get a calus on it or something and so if you've been thin for awhile, it toughens up....but bc we have had ours covered in fat...it didnt have to get tough.

thats my theory anyways and I am sticking to it.

I've actually had my coxyus bone removed! If you want to consider outpatient surgery, go ahead. It really wasn't that bad. There is some scar tissue there now, but i DO have 2 donut cushions, one at the office I leave there 24/7 and the other is here at home in my desk/office chair. everyone at work knows i had back surgery but they don't know about the tailbone surgery. yes, it looks like a hemmorid pillow but so what. It's been there so long now, i don't care what anyone thinks! If you have this done, you should not sit on a hard surface ever, if possible. cause it will hurt eventually. or do let your butt hang off the back if you can. like on a hard stadium bench. i went thru the pain for years before having surgery. you don't really need that bone and i forgot what it is actually there for. will write more later.

Hi! I'm reading backwards through your posts and just wanted to comment here. You should check out www.katysays.com for some stretches which will help with your tailbone pain, and also how to "sit" properly. Who would have thought we need lessons? Anyhoo, better get back to reading!
